Why do I keep Sinning?

“Why do I keep Sinning?” is a question that keeps ringing in the minds of many Christians. Sitting well dressed on a Sunday Morning, Lifting hands in passionate worship and Listening to the Word with Hunger but there is something still lurking on the side of your mind putting forth questions-“Why do I keep Sinning?” “Why do I commit the same sin again and again?” “I have repented a million times but still go back to my sin, Why?”. While thoughts like this haunt many, some have accepted this as normal and continue to go back to their sin without any disturbance.

The Truth Vs Popular Opinion:-
In a particular subject, mostly the truth is always far from the popular opinion. The Popular Opinion about sin in the Church through ages is that we will not be free from sin till we hit heaven. Just because something is popular and widely accepted doesn’t mean it is true. The Truth is light years away from the popular opinion and it nails that Jesus died to set us free from sin. Jesus didn’t just die for our forgiveness, He died for our Freedom. If we can be free from sin only after hitting heaven, then Jesus died in vain. Jesus filed a divorce between sin and mankind through the cross. When someone believes in Jesus, it gets activated and he is legally free from the clutches of sin.

If I want should explain it in a Primary school way, then here you go. Jesus is our Saviour not just our Forgiver. A Saviour Saves you from something. If you are drowning in the sea, a Saviour is one who saves you from the water and pulls you into His boat. If you immersed in darkness, soaked in the filth of the world, marinated in lust and perversion, then a Saviour is the one who pulls you out of them all and cleans you up. All of Christendom claims that Jesus is our Saviour but think that we will be beaten by sin from time to time till we get to heaven. Jesus didn’t die to save us in sin, He died to save us from sin. No matter what your sin is, No matter how many times it appears in your weekly schedule, you have freedom made available through the work of Jesus. The Grace of God kicks out sin and it is activated by Faith.

What shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means. (This is God’s answer for Grace and Sin, many have a different answer). We “died to sin”. How can we live in it any longer?? Romans 6:1, 2(NIV) (Emphasis mine)

For we know that “our old self was crucified with Him”, so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin: because “anyone who has died” has been “freed from sin”. Romans 6:6, 7(NIV)

You “have been set free from sin” and have become slaves to God. Romans 6:22(NIV)

Sin-Cycle:
The Sin-Cycle is a Cyclic action, often repeated throughout a person’s life. It goes like this-

You sin, then you have a conviction that you have sinned against God. You repent from that sin meaning you turn your back on that sin. You make resolutions which will go like this-“God, I won’t commit that sin again. I belong to you….I won’t watch garbage again, my eyes belong to you…I won’t act in anger again, I will walk in Love..Blah Blah Blah”. And Before Sunset or before the week ends, you are back again playing with your sin saying-“I’m back”. And This Cycle goes on and on and on. You feel bad while taking communion or while listening to a strong message but you are back again enjoying your favorite sin.

Years ago, this was the only type of sin cycle available. With the dawn of some modern teachings that have pushed grace to a false ground, we have a new cycle which goes-“Sin…Sin…Sin…Sin…Sin”. Whatever the cycle you may be stuck in, you are in a dangerous ground. Sin always comes with it’s boyfriend, the devil. An Open door to sin is an open door to the devil. The devil is our enemy and he is out there looking for an open door, so that he can jump in and destroy your life. Jesus didn’t cure sin, He cured mankind from sin. Sin is still dangerous. The Good News of the Gospel is, you don’t just have a ticket to heaven, you have a ticket out of sin, you have a Freedom ticket. Use it.

Enough said, Let’s go to the message of this post. What? What did you do till now?…Ahhh I was just giving a background, now to the message. Don’t worry, it won’t be long…

The Reason:
There are Many reasons why Christians keep sinning like the lack of knowledge of the Freedom that is available through the work of Jesus. Even after receiving the knowledge of the Finished work of Jesus, many continue playing with sin. Why??? Why??? Why???…Why do I keep sinning? The answer is in Galatians 5:13:-

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13(NIV)

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13(NLT)

You have been set free. You will understand Freedom better, if you can imagine a Robber who is in jail being set free. After his freedom, he can go back to robbing or live a good life because he has a free will, he has a choice. Similarly, you have been set free from sin, you are out of jail. Now, you have to choose, you just have two options like the robber- Go back to Sinning or Serve others in Love. If you don’t get busy Serving, you will keep Sinning. Majority of the Christians are stuck in a Sin cycle because they are not out there touching lives, serving people and loving like Jesus. There is no neutral ground, There is no option to live a “Eat, Earn, Sleep” lifestyle with Church, Prayer, Bible study as it’s toppings. It is either Sinning or Serving. Don’t get into the lie that goes-“I’m trying but I’m not able to”. It is a lie cooked in Hell’s kitchen. You have the power to choose. God has given you the Spirit of Self control. You can control yourself and direct your life from a life of sin into a life of love.

Don’t lose your mind…Think about this. Go back to your last sin scene, you sinned because you had a lot of free time. Sin starts with a thought, you don’t sin just like that. You play with that thought for a time, then you act. You let the sinful thought play in your mind because your mind was free and the thought took root in your mind because your mind was free, and you ended up sinning because you had a lot of free time. Jesus was a busy man. He was busy hanging out with the Father and busy going around doing good. Jesus is our only model. If you don’t get busy hanging out with Daddy God and get busy destroying the works of the devil, you will have a lot of free time which will be occupied by the devil.

You know that God anointed Jesus from Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Jesus went everywhere and did good things, such as healing everyone who was under the devil’s power. Jesus did these things because God was with him. Acts 10:38(GOD’s Word translation)

You have to stop giving the age old garbage-“Brother, I’m not in Full time ministry” “Brother, I’m busy with my work. I have to take care of my family”, if you want to stop sinning. You have to make up your mind and surrender your life to serve others. Not Just on Sundays, you have to develop a lifestyle of serving others. You have to get busy touching lives. If you do, your mind will be filled with thoughts about God and Serving others. If your mind is occupied, sinful thoughts will bounce off and can’t take root in your mind. And remember, all the good works and service must be done in humility or else everything you do won’t be taken into account.

If you repented a million times, studied every book that talks about How to be Free from sin and still stuck in sin, then you need to take the “Galatians 5:13” pill. Go around doing good like Jesus, get busy touching lives and live a life of love. Jesus has provided Freedom for you and it is activated by Faith but walking in freedom is depended on your will. Choose to Live a life of surrender, a life of love.
