What to and What not to Suffer as a Christian?

The subject of “Christian Suffering” has gone through so much abuses that most Christians get hit by everything the devil throws at them in the name of suffering for Christ. People lie down in their beds beaten by sickness and proclaim that they are suffering for Christ which is nothing but stinkin garbage. It is high-time that you understand the real truth about suffering for Christ.

Suffer as a Christian not as a Human:
We have to suffer as Christians and we must not suffer as normal humans. The sufferings that hit the people of the world must not touch us. We are free from those sufferings, we have to suffer for Christ. Suffering for Christ is entirely different. The Truth that will shed light on this subject is the truth about “the finished work of Jesus” and “your privileges as Sons and Daughters of God”. Everything Jesus suffered, you don’t have to suffer again. He didn’t suffer for Himself, He suffered for us so that we can be free from those sufferings. It is like we go to a restaurant with Jesus and Jesus pays our bill. You don’t have to pay your bill again because Jesus took your bill upon Himself and paid it off. What He suffered, you don’t have to suffer. Now, You have to suffer for His Name, for the Gospel, as a Christian.

The Sufferings of Christ and Sonship:
Jesus took upon Himself, all the sufferings that hit us as humans so that we can be free from those sufferings. Salvation is not just a forgiving experience, it is a transforming experience wherein you are moved into a different plane of living that the sufferings that are normal for people are illegal in your life. Let me take you on a tour through the sufferings of Christ and your privileges as God’s kid, you will be shocked to know how much you have been deceived by the devil and the erroneous teachings in the Church-

  • You don’t have to suffer under sin and addictions because Jesus took your sins upon Himself and provided freedom for you.
You have been set free from sin. Romans 6:18(NIV)
  • You don’t have to suffer under sickness because Jesus took your sicknesses upon Himself.
By His wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24(NIV)
  • You don’t have to suffer under poverty because Jesus cancelled poverty.
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. 1 Corinthians 8:9(NKJV)
  • You don’t have to suffer under emotional and mental wounds because Jesus took your hurts and pains upon Himself.
Surely he took up “our” pain and bore “our” suffering. Isaiah 53:4(NIV)
  • You don’t have to suffer under worry as a Child of God because God is your Daddy.
Do not worry about your life…Seek first His Kingdom and His righteouness and all these things will be given to you. Matthew 6:25,33
  • You don’t have to suffer under rejection as a Child of God because you have been accepted as a Child of God in Christ.
Accept one another, then, just as “Christ accepted you”, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15:7(NIV)
  • You don’t have to suffer without peace as a Child of God because you have access to the Peace of God in Christ.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. John 14:27(NIV)
  • You don’t have to suffer without joy as a Child of God because there is joy in Daddy’s presence and Daddy God is in you.
Rejoice “in the Lord” “always”. I will say it again Rejoice. Philippians 4:4(NIV)

There it goes, all the “I’m Suffering for Christ” garbage of most Christians. I have heard many who are suffering some sickness say-“I’m suffering for Christ” or “God is teaching me through this sickness” which are nothing but lies cooked in Hell’s kitchen. What Christ suffered for you, you don’t have to suffer again. You are free from sin, sickness, poverty, worry and the likes. You are a Son of the Most High God, You are a Daughter of the King. You don’t have to be beaten down by everything that is hitting the people of the world. Don’t let the devil cheat you. Don’t be blind to your inheritance in Christ and your privileges as a Child of God. Don’t think you are pleasing God by throwing a pity-party. Walk like the King’s Kid…

Suffering as a Christian:
You don’t have to go through the sufferings of the world because you are not of this world. You are from heaven, you belong to God. But you have to suffer as a Christian- you have to suffer for His Name, for the Gospel. Most of the Church has missed in this area because we have a wrong view of suffering as a Christian. As many Christians are busy going through the sufferings of this world like the people of the world, they don’t have time to suffer for Christ. At the end of day, many are going through the sufferings which Christ suffered for us and not suffering for Christ.

Yes, and those who decide to please Christ Jesus by living godly lives will suffer at the hands of those who hate him. 2 Timothy 3:12(TLB)

Jesus didn’t call us to a normal, “eat-earn-sleep-go to Church” lifestyle. You have been called to live a radical life on a normal, selfish world. Jesus said that the world will hate us but most Christians play it nice and safe in a way that nobody hates them. If you are not insulted for the name of Christ, you are not Living for Christ. If you are not receiving hate, your love for Christ is cold and dead. Every Christian is called to carry the Gospel, carry the Love and Power of God to the world but most Christians live normal to stay safe. Jesus didn’t say “send offerings to missionaries, plant your seed in some TV ministry and live a normal life”. Every Christian is called to step out and work for the advancement of the Kingdom. Jesus never said “One group in the Church must live for Me and the Other group must live for themselves and visit me on Sundays”. Don’t keep your life in normal mode, by giving excuses and reasons. Grow up…

Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. 1 Peter 4:1,2(ESV)- Peter is telling us that we must be open to suffering in the same way our Master was open to suffering. The moment we get that mindset wherein we are ready to take anything for Christ, is the moment we will stop playing with sin and start playing with the devil’s head.

When you step out and take a stand for Christ, you will attract insults, hate and criticisms. That is suffering for Christ and not “I’m suffering cancer for Christ” or “I’m going through a dark time because my girlfriend dumped me”. You have been called to suffer for Christ, to get insulted for His name, to be hated for Living for the Kingdom.

Note: Getting insulted and persecuted for being a hypocritical, religious nut will not be taken into account as suffering for Christ.

Grow up…If you want to play it nice and safe, you don’t love God. Get real and step out for the Kingdom. If you are not suffering for Christ, you are not living for Christ. If you are not living for Christ, you are living for yourself. If you are living for yourself, you are living for the devil. Great rewards and Great celebrations awaits for those who live a life sold out for Christ. A life lived for Christ is filled with insults, hate and persecutions.

Hello??…What about the Blessings you mentioned??:

Some of you may be thinking-“What happened to all the privileges, joy and peace you said we will experience?”, I never said that sufferings will replace our inheritance and privileges. They will go hand in hand. You will suffer but you will be enjoying joy and peace. You must be tasting the goodness of God while people are spitting hatred in your food. Paul the Apostle, you did great exploits for Christ said that He was in delight when insults and difficulties knocked at his door because of Christ. When you take blows and bullets for God, God is glorified and you will receive a deeper dose of His Goodness. Living for Christ and Suffering for Christ is a life filled with Joy, Pleasure and Glory.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven. Matthew 5:11,12(NIV)- If you want to be blessed, get insulted and persecuted for Christ. When it happens, be happy and soak in the joy of the Lord. that’s what Jesus said.

Be happy if you are cursed and insulted for being a Christian, for when that happens the Spirit of God will come upon you with great glory. Don’t let me hear of your suffering for murdering or stealing or making trouble or being a busybody and prying into other people’s affairs. 16 But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being in Christ’s family and being called by his wonderful name. 1 Peter 4:14-16(TLB)- If you want to experience a deeper dose of God’s Glory, suffer for Him.

What Now…Don’t go through the sufferings of this world, don’t let the devil cheat you. Don’t tolerate those sufferings as normal, kick them out and keep them out because Christ suffered for you. Christ payed your bill, don’t pay it again. Enough said…You need to Step out- Get out of normal, Get out of Convenience and Comfort and take a stand for Christ. Love God, Serve people and Go around destroying the works of the devil. When insults, hate and persecutions come your way, be thankful and happy because you are being hit for the name of Christ. Don’t try to play in nice and safe, it is illegal in the Kingdom of God. Take your thumb out of your mouth, stop wearing diapers and grow up…
