Bill Johnson, the Senior Pastor of Bethel Church- Redding California, is one of the Fathers of the present day move of God. Even though the world sees miracles as his reputation, his heart is sold out to be intimate with Jesus. There is something else, something odd, divinely odd about this man- He never talks bad about anyone.
Bill Johnson and his Dad:-
Melvin Earl Johnson, Bill Johnson’s father, honored everyone- no matter who they were. He didn’t speak against anyone or fight anyone. Even the ones who fought him or left the Church, were hit with love and honor. Bill Johnson saw his Dad function like this and caught it. He understood that this practice of honoring everyone and not speaking bad about anyone was pleasing to God.
Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton:-
Bill Johnson took his father’s path of honoring everyone with his words and actions irrespective of who they were. But Bill’s best friend and fellow soldier, wasn’t able to keep his mouth shut about people who hurt him until he recognized Bill’s odd silence. (Kris came from a messed family that had zero idea about Love and respect)
When Kris goes on a blasting spree about those who have hurt him, Bill played mute. Finally, Kris became aware that when his conversations involved negativity about other people, his best friend was not engaging with Him. He learnt a good lesson, one of most important lessons we must all learn.
God is all about Love. Love touches the heart of God like no other. He is Love and He commands us to be Love. When you choose to walk in Love, the Love as prescribed in the Bible, you will be causing celebration in heaven. This Love, prescribed and commanded in the Bible, demonstrated by Jesus, doesn’t talk ill of others.
Gold, from a wise man:-
Someone asked Bill Johnson after a meeting-“I notice that you never talk bad about people. And I’m just wondering what’s going on in your heart? How did you discipline yourself to never speak negatively about other people, even when some people are a pain?”. The wise man, who is a deep history of walking with God, answered with tears:-“I honor Jesus in them…How can I speak badly about someone made in the image of God? Someone so valuable that Jesus gave His life for them?”.
We use our tongue to praise God our Father and then turn around and curse a person who was made in his very image! Out of the same mouth we pour out words of praise one minute and curses the next. My brothers and sister, this should never be. James 3:9, 10(TPT)
Every human on earth is made in the image of God, doesn’t matter if they are terrorist or a traffic police, a prostitute or a pastor. God so loved the world is the verse, not good people or kind people or Christian people. God loves the world, He loves everyone and Jesus went to the extent of dying for all of us. The price tag hanging on the shoulder of every human walking this earth reads “Jesus”. Our Love for God is confirmed through our Love for people said Apostle John. So, if you are fighting and arguing with people, accusing and gossiping without conviction, I can boldly say you don’t Love God or I can take it a little lower and say- You Love yourself more than you Love God.
Anyone can say, “I love God,” yet have hatred toward another believer. This makes him a phony, because if you don’t love a brother or sister, whom you can see, how can you truly love God, whom you can’t see? For he has given us this command: whoever loves God must also demonstrate love to others. 1 John 4:20,21(TPT)
The Other side of Love:-
There is a side of Love where we give to the poor, care for the old and stand by widows. There is an another side, mostly ignored by the Church world- love those who hate you, pray for those who mistreat you, bless those who curse you. It’s doesn’t matter what people have done to us, we have been commanded to Love them. Even if we are mistreated, we have been instructed to repay with respect. And words, one of the powerful missiles of Love, should never be used to hurt or harm people.
And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them. Ephesians 4:29(TPT)
Even when people are rude and evil, they carry a price tag that reads “Jesus”. Even when they are a pain to your life, they carry a price tag that reads “Jesus”. It can be hard at first, to control yourself from hurting those who have hurt you but with Jesus as your motivation, you can work it out and make it a habit.
I want to be like Bill Johnson in this. I want to encourage you to follow Bill Johnson’s path and stop talking negative about people, doesn’t matter how much they have hurt you. Why not pray for them everyday? How about sending a gift? Let your mouth be used only to release life. Walk in Love in word and deed towards those who mistreat you and harm you.
