Journey with God:
A Pastor said to me-“Accept Jesus. Then even if you continue in sin you will end up in heaven”. I slammed-“No No No…we can lose our salvation.” (I was young in the Lord when this happened) Even though I stood strong in my belief I was confused about this. My journey with God wiped this confusion away and God showed me answers in His Word. I can’t give away everything, it will take a day to read it. So I will try to compress it into this post.
Can salvation be Lost?:
Yes and Yes to my Yes. We have been saved by grace, how can we lose it? We are saved by grace and grace is not a license to sin, it empowers you to overcome sin. Isn’t God good? Yes He is good but we His Children are being bad to Him. Oh my, Will I lose my salvation if I sin? No…You can’t sin your salvation away but you can reject or renounce it. You don’t lose your salvation when you sin, you lose it when you reject or turn your back on Jesus.
Every time you sin, you are stepping into satan’s playground. Satan is no fool to allow you to play in His playground and leave unharmed. He will deceive you out of salvation. “When you continue in sin for too long, demons will enter your mind and you will be hardened by sin. At this stage, Satan will deceive you to reject Jesus”. Take time to read my post on demons-http://holyspiritrevolution.com/can-christians-have-demons-in-them/
The Bible says that “Every fact is to be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses.2 Corinthians 13:1(NASB)”
Jesus nailed this truth in some of His parables. He loudspeakered-“Every who wants to follow me must deny himself” (Mark 8:34). My friend, if you deny your ‘self’ you will not sin because your self is the problem. Jesus proclaimed that we must strive till the end.
Peter has a big foot on this. He writes “If they have escaped the corruption of the world(sin) by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are “again entangled” in it(sin) and are “overcome”, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.2 Peter 2:20″. “Saved, living in sin and then overcome by sin-salvation lost”
John has a scary truth to proclaim. He speaks about a sin that leads to death(1 John 5:16). The sin that leads to death is rejecting Jesus. (Here, death does not mean physical death but eternal death)
Paul has lot of bombs to throw at some of our doctrines. He agrees with Jesus and others. He warns Christians that they must continue in their faith and must not fall from grace. He was writing to Christians not to some aliens from Mars.
Paul asked the Corinth Church to provide a man caught in incest to satan to be destroyed or killed so that He will be saved from hell (1 Corinthians 5). Paul doesn’t have to provide this man to satan if believers cannot lose their salvation.-Read again.(If you are mature enough to use your computer to read this post, you will understand this)
Old Testament says:
Israelites were saved from Pharaoh (satan). Many died in the wilderness (world) and did not enter the Promised Land (heaven).
Free will says:
God created man with a freewill, man can make choices. God didn’t create robots. The Bible doesn’t say, you lose your freewill when you get saved. You still have it, so you can make a choice to reject Jesus. You choose to sin after you get saved, similarly you can choose to throw your salvation away.
Once Lost always lost? :
Hebrews 6:4-6,10:26-29, are the most controversial passages to interpret. A preacher (one of my fav) said concerning these passages-“When you encounter passages like this turn to John 3:16”. He can be my favorite but that answer was stupid. Let’s deal with it:
It says that if you lose your salvation you cannot be saved again. You will be doomed forever. You don’t have to study these passages for hours to understand them. It says what it says. Let me dig deeper- If a “mature” Christians loses his salvation, he cannot be saved again. He will be signed off to hell at that very moment. (To know how mature a Christian must be to be eligible for this, see Hebrews 6:4-6)
Christians who are not mature can backslide. They can be brought back to Christ ‘if’ they are lucky enough to escape the deception chains of satan.
Lastly, There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.(A verse people use to support-Once saved always saved) It says what it says. No condemnation for those who are “in” Jesus not those who have rejected Jesus by falling prey to the deception of sin. Sin is a done deal. Jesus destroyed sin’s power on the cross. Grace empowers us to overcome sin. You sin because you want to, so stop it and live the real Christian life.
I didn’t write this post to scare you but to tell you what the Bible says about this. Get to your Bible and see what it says. Hope you were blessed….If you have any questions, drop it in the comment box below.
